Discovered between 1985 and 1988 by a man on a yacht by mistake, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch or sometimes called the Pacific trash vortex… is a collection of plastic and floating trash halfway between Hawaii and California.
It is now three times the size of France.
The Ocean Clean Up is going to start cleaning it in days.
The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit organization, developing advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic.
Their system now fully launched in the lagoon to clean the garbage patch. The assembly crew has moved on to assembling the last stabilizers and solar-powered electronics.
Their system consists of a 600-meter-long floater that sits at the surface of the water and a tapered 3-meter-deep skirt attached below. The floater provides buoyancy to the system and prevents plastic from flowing over it, while the skirt stops debris from escaping underneath. This will be used to mock a coast line.
Both the plastic and system are being carried by the current. However, wind and waves propel only the system, as the floater sits just above the water surface, while the plastic is primarily just beneath it. The system moves faster than the plastic, allowing the plastic to be captured.
The Ocean Cleanup has estimated to be able to remove 50% of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in just 5 years’ time. The concentrated plastic will be brought back to shore for recycling and sold to B2C companies.
The revenue gained will help fund the cleanup expansion to the other four places on the planet with this problem.
The Molson Coors Brewing Company is a multinational brewing company, formed in 2005 by the merger of Molson of Canada, and Coors of the United States. It is the world’s seventh largest brewer by volume.
Molson Coors plans to sell pot-infused drinks in Canada, where consumable marijuana will become legal next year.
Molson Coors Brewing Co. is based in Colorado, which along with Washington, were the first states to legalize recreational use of marijuana. Recreational marijuana becomes legal in Canada in October, but consumable forms of the drug will be legal there in 2019.
The Denver brewer said its Canadian unit, Molson Coors Canada, is teaming with Canadian cannabis producer, The Hydropothecary Corporation (HEXO), to create a joint partnership “to pursue opportunities to develop non-alcoholic, cannabis-infused beverages for the Canadian market following legalization.”
Molson Coors Canada will have a 57.5 percent controlling interest in the joint standalone venture and HEXO will control the remainder.
Aside from this, Denver-based Molson Coors reported second-quarter net sales fell slightly but second-quarter earnings per share bested analysts’ expectations.
Molson Coors reported second-quarter net sales fell to $3.085 billion from $3.091 billion a year earlier. Analysts were expecting sales of $3.1 billion.

COUNTRY #13: CHINA Dish: Peking duck (roast duck, with scallion, cucumber, and hoisin sauce, wrapped in pancake), cha siu bao (BBQ pork in baked bun) Restaurant: Peking Duck House (28 Mott St., Chinatown, Manhattan), Mei Li Wah (64 Bayard St., Chinatown, Manhattan) The Chinese food we typically eat in America- kung pao, General Tso’s, and orange chicken- isn’t authentic Chinese. They were all dishes created in America by Chinese immigrants. My friend Weijia took me to Chinatown for some REAL Chinese food! Peking duck has been served in China for 700 years. Succulent roast duck with crispy skin, scallions, cucumbers, and hoisin sauce, wrapped in a pancake. Typically, you get all the ingredients at your table and assemble it however you like it. We then went to Mei Li Wah Bakery for cha siu bao- it’s the best $1 food in the world! Cha sui bao are commonly called “pork buns”- tender pork in a sweet barbecue sauce, wrapped in a soft, sweet bun. #china #mikegeorgeeatstheworld #nyc #food #foodie
